Damascus – The President of the Damascus and Countryside Chamber of Agriculture, Mr. Mohammad Jannat, received at the Chamber's headquarters Mr. Keiran Lonn, Director of Agriculture and Rural Development Programs at the European Union Delegation to Syria, and his accompanying delegation.The meeting was attended by the President of the Syrian Federation of Chambers of Agriculture, Mr. Haroun Khattab, and representatives from the "Amal for Relief" organization.The visit comes within the framework of enhancing joint cooperation to support the agricultural sector. It concluded with a tour of the "From Producer to Consumer" exhibition, organized by the Damascus Chamber of Agriculture in cooperation with the Amal for Relief organization. The 3-day exhibition aimed to economically empower and support rural women by creating direct marketing channels for their final products.During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of the agricultural sector as a fundamental pillar of food security in Syria, noting that the Syrian economy is an agricultural economy par excellence.Mr. Lonn stressed the importance of sustaining development initiatives that begin in rural areas, extending to securing agricultural production inputs and creating marketing channels. He pointed out that Syria is rich in vegetables, fruits, and ornamental plants that were previously exported worldwide.For his part, Mr. Mohammad Jannat stressed the necessity of reviving the agricultural sector, which has suffered neglect over the past 15 years. He noted that Syrian products outmatch global products in quality and soil richness, but the sector requires restoration, support, and the networking of all initiatives and forces to breathe life back into this vital industry
