The ghost mushroom is considered one of the rarest living organisms characterized by its miraculous ability to emit a faint light at night in humid and dark environments on fallen tree trunks. The bioluminescence phenomenon occurs due to a natural chemical reaction between luciferin and luciferase in the presence of oxygen to attract insects and facilitate spore dispersal. Despite its biological beauty, it possesses toxic traits that prevent consumption and require extreme caution in handling.
