Minister of Agriculture: The Private Sector is a Partner and Supporter for Farmers.. Agricultural Cooperatives are the Solution to Fragmented Holdings and Introducing Modern Mechanization. The Syrian Minister of Agriculture, Engineer "Basel Al-Suwaydan," participated in the activities of the second day of the National Syrian Private Sector Dialogue Conference. The event is organized by the Ministry of Economy and Industry, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and with the support of the Government of Japan, at the Palace of Conventions in Damascus. The Minister emphasized that the conference provides an opportunity to introduce investors to the ministry's vision and strategy for achieving food security in partnership with the private sector. He highlighted the available investment opportunities in the agricultural sector and the provided facilities, especially after the issuance of the new investment law, which prioritized this sector and removed many obstacles for its investors. He pointed out the ministry's plan to convert a number of its productive facilities and agricultural lands into a holding company, collaborating with the private sector for its management and development. The Minister stressed that the private sector and major companies investing in agriculture will not compete with farmers, but will rather support them through contract farming, supplying them with inputs, and marketing their products.
